How should I dress?
You will see a wide variety of dress here. Some choose to dress up, others go quite casual. Wear whatever makes you most comfortable.
Can I participate in communion?
Absolutely 100% YES. We believe that since Christ is our host and meal, his feast is open to all. If you prefer not to take communion, you are encouraged to participate by coming forward with the group for a blessing.
Is there an offering?
Yes. Every Sunday, we gather an offering of financial gifts to fund our ministry here at Christ Lutheran. This pays for mundane expenses such as power and the pastor’s salary, but also funds the important projects we do in the community, through programs such as quilting for Lutheran World Relief, participation in the winter Reach Out shelters, community outreach initiatives, and more. On the first Sunday of every month, all cash in the plate is designated towards a specific social services organization or project.
Do you have parking on-site?
Yes! Parking is no problem. There are also designated parking spots for disabled drivers.
Do you have childcare available during worship?
Yes. If you like, our nursery attendant Diane will care for your child in the nursery. Of course, children of all ages are always welcome in church services!
Can my child take communion?
That is up to you. We do not restrict participation in communion based on age.
What is a Lutheran?
Good question! Lutheran Christians trace their theological heritage back to Martin Luther, the instigator of the Reformation of European Christianity back in the 16th century. Luther was an Augustinian monk who constantly worried that he could never do enough to gain God’s love and forgiveness. He read verses like Romans 3:28 and realized that we indeed can’t earn God’s love; God gives it to us anyway as a free gift, what we call grace. Lutherans today continue to emphasize God’s radical gift of grace, in which, being freed from the weight of sin, we respond in living out life in service to others.
I am single / divorced / married / gay / transgender / old / young / atheist / agnostic / black / white / brown / never been to church... Am I welcome?
Yes, yes, yes to all! All are welcome in God’s house.
Can’t I just be a Christian on my own? Why should I go to church when I could just go on a hike and admire creation? Or sleep in?
Of course, anyone can choose to individually engage in spirituality or follow a religion. But we believe that for Christians it is important to be part of a worshipping community. It is in community that we learn to love and serve each other, which extends to all aspects of our daily lives.
Do I have to believe certain things to go to this church?
It’s often said that that opposite of faith isn’t doubt; it is certainty. Being a follower of Jesus is a journey, with twists and bumps and surprises along the way. You bring all of who you are to church: experiences, education, beliefs, and doubts. You do not need to check your brain at the door. During worship, we say one of the traditional creeds together as a statement of faith. Though it says what we believe, it does not dictate how we individually believe. Faith is a journey of questions, not answers.
